Esta diversidad geol\u00f3gica se destaca en los geositios, lugares de inter\u00e9s p\u00fablico que proporcionan valiosa informaci\u00f3n para comprender mejor los recursos naturales, las aguas subterr\u00e1neas, los riesgos naturales, as\u00ed como los cambios ambientales y clim\u00e1ticos, y la evoluci\u00f3n de la vida.\n<br>\nEn Ecuador, un pa\u00eds de gran diversidad geol\u00f3gica, estos geositios son de especial relevancia. Desde los volcanes activos en la regi\u00f3n andina, hasta las cuencas sedimentarias de la Amazon\u00eda y las formaciones marinas en la costa, estos lugares de inter\u00e9s geol\u00f3gico permiten Continental,<br> Tomo 1: Provincias de Carchi, Imbabura y Pichincha\t\t\t\t\t\t<\/span>\n\t\t\t\t\t<\/h3>\n\t\t\t\t\n\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t\t<p class=\"elementor-icon-box-description\">\n\t\t\t\t\t\tLa geolog\u00eda es el estudio de la Tierra y su evoluci\u00f3n a trav\u00e9s del tiempo, y abarca \u00e1reas como la geodiversidad y el patrimonio geol\u00f3gico. La geodiversidad se refiere a la variedad de elementos geol\u00f3gicos, como rocas, minerales, f\u00f3siles y paisajes, que reflejan la evoluci\u00f3n del planeta. Por otro lado, el patrimonio geol\u00f3gico incluye los recursos naturales de valor cient\u00edfico, cultural y educativo, que permiten comprender el origen y los procesos de la Tierra, as\u00ed como su evoluci\u00f3n y la de la vida.\n<br>\nLos Lugares de Inter\u00e9s Geol\u00f3gico (LIG) son zonas de importancia cient\u00edfica, educativa o tur\u00edstica, que permiten estudiar e interpretar la historia geol\u00f3gica a nivel local, regional o global. El Instituto de Investigaci\u00f3n Geol\u00f3gico y Energ\u00e9tico (IIGE) ha desarrollado el proyecto \u201cIdentificaci\u00f3n del Patrimonio Geol\u00f3gico en el Ecuador\u201d desde 2022, con el objetivo de identificar y valorar los LIG con mayor valor geol\u00f3gico en el pa\u00eds.\n<br>\nEl libro \"Lugares de Inter\u00e9s Geol\u00f3gico del Ecuador Continental, Tomo 1\" recoge los resultados de este proyecto, centr\u00e1ndose en las provincias de Carchi, Imbabura y Pichincha. Presenta 25 LIG, clasific\u00e1ndolos seg\u00fan su inter\u00e9s estratigr\u00e1fico, mineral\u00f3gico, paleontol\u00f3gico, hidrogeol\u00f3gico, entre otros. Adem\u00e1s, incluye una valoraci\u00f3n cient\u00edfica, did\u00e1ctica y tur\u00edstica de estos lugares, as\u00ed como su susceptibilidad y riesgo de degradaci\u00f3n, proporcionando una herramienta clave para difundir el conocimiento generado por el IIGE sobre el patrimonio geol\u00f3gico de
